What does it take to become a dental hygienist?

To enroll in the Fortis Dental Hygienist program, applicants must meet the following requirements:  

  • Hold a high school diploma, General Educational Development (GED) certificate, or equivalent 
  • Be at least 17 years old at the start of studies 
  • Submit an application form 
  • Participate in an interview with administrative staff

What does a Dental Hygienist program at Fortis look like?

  • Earn an Associate of Science degree in as little as 120 weeks (just over 2 years) 
  • Participate in a combination of classroom lectures, laboratory instruction, and small group hands-on skill development
  • Learn from passionate, experienced instructors with real-world skills and a dedication to student success 
  • Become eligible upon completion of the program to sit for the National Dental Hygiene Examination and the Central Regional Dental Hygiene licensure.*

What You’ll Learn

  • Acquire knowledge and exhibit competency in clinical skills required to perform oral health assessments and procedures and periodontal treatments and report findings to dentists
