The Sterile Processing Technician is an important member of the healthcare team and is trained to handle surgical instruments and understand microbiology and infection control methods. The primary duty of a Sterile Processing Technician is to ensure that instruments used by medical personnel are contaminant-free. Sterile processing technicians are key to minimizing the risk of infection, and at Fortis students are instructed on proper techniques to clean and sterilize medical instruments, learn the categories and proper names of medical instruments and importantly, how to properly transfer and store instruments to keep them contaminant-free.  This comprehensive program is taught by experienced instructors and is a balance of classroom study, practice in lab environments and hands-on, real-world experience.

Graduates of the Fortis sterile processing training program will have the training needed to take the national certification exam to become a Central Sterile Processing Technician. The program is thoughtfully designed to prepare students to pursue entry-level positions in hospitals, physicians' offices, inpatient and outpatient clinics, diagnostic centers and other healthcare facilities.
