CUTLER BAY, FL. – (February 13, 2020) – Fortis College in Cutler Bay, part of a network of schools managed by Education Affiliates, Inc., has expanded its career education options to offer a Practical Nursing (PN) program. The program is currently enrolling students and will welcome its first cohort of students on April 6, 2020.
Dr. Sheila Burke, vice-president of Nursing for Education Affiliates, shares that the program was designed to meet a growing need in the state. “By 2025, Florida’s over-65 residents will account for more than 26 percent of the state’s population,” says Burke. “Florida will need more skilled, well-trained nursing professionals to provide the increasingly complex care this population requires in the coming years.”
The new PN program offers an 60-week practical nursing program that prepares students to sit for the NCLEX licensure exam and pursue entry-level positions as Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN). Graduates from the program can continue their education at the campus - Fortis College in Cutler Bay also offers an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
“We are thrilled to expand our current program offerings to include the PN program,” said Bruce Smith, campus president of Fortis College in Cutler Bay. “South Florida is in need of nursing professionals. We’re excited to offer a solution to the ongoing employment gap and look forward to supporting our state as the needs of its residents grow and change.”
One of the largest nursing education providers in the U.S., Education Affiliates, Inc. operates St. Paul’s Schools of Nursing, Denver College of Nursing, and Fortis Colleges & Institutes who, together, educate over 4,000 nursing students nationwide, and operate 28 nursing programs in 10 states.
